Eco Friendly Equestrian: Barn Products

When you look at the ingredients of most products that are used in most barns, what do you see? A whole lotta crazy words that are hard to pronounce? Does anything look familiar? I’m sure you might recognize a few things, but there are so many ingredients that are harmful to the environment or to animals (humans included) that we don’t recognize. Some of these can cause allergic reactions or respiratory problems over time. One of my goals this year is to start replacing my old products as they run out with new, eco-friendly products. Items that are easier on my skin, Dancer’s skin and our environment! Here are a few eco-friendly items that are a great alternative to others on the market and work great!

Eco Stall – ECO-Stall is a  new odor neutralizer that utilizes naturally occurring microbial nutrients to instantly reduce ammonia, urea and uric acid levels to create a fresh, healthy environment for you and your animals. Bioremediation is the use of naturally occurring microbes to convert waste products into harmless carbon dioxide and water. Because the bacteria that are the most effective at eliminating ammonia, uric acid and urea are already present in animal waste, ECO-Stall simply provides essential nutrients to accelerate the natural bioremediation action, eliminating odors in the process!

M.O.S.S. Soaps – M.O.S.S. (Morgan’s Original Saddle Soap) was founded in 2004 by Morgan Adair, an FEI level dressage rider and USDF Bronze and Silver medalist. During her years as a working student Morgan found that tack cleaning was her least favorite chore. At the end of every day there were piles of bridles waiting to be cleaned. She began thinking about how she could make it a more pleasurable experience. It then occurred to her that no one had made an aromatherapy saddle soap. She began experimenting with different ingredients and created a product that would come to be known as Morgan’s Original Scented Soap.

Morgan began using the product on bridles, boots, saddles, and even her leather car seats and purses! Eventually other riders in the barn became curious about the wonderful smells emanating from the tack room. They began using the soap themselves and found it not only to be a pleasurable aromatherapy experience, but the soap left their leather cleaner and softer than any other product they had tried! Morgan thought the rest of the equestrian world should experience the same pleasure while cleaning their tack. Thus, MOSS was born.

Eco Friendly Gloves – West County Gardener makes gloves entirely from recycled water bottles! Each pair of West County Gloves will remove two large plastic water bottles from landfills, save energy and produce at least 40% less CO2.  Their work gloves would be great for barn chores in all seasons!

Tuff Rider EcoGreen Bamboo – Tuff Rider’s Eco Green Bamboo line is made from sustainable products and includes shirts, breeches and even socks!
