My New Adventure (and why I’ve been MIA)

I don’t remember much of what happened in February after I decided to open a booth at a local vintage market. I remember making the decision, but after that day, my life turned into a complete tornado of painting, refinishing, designing and very little sleep.

When I was younger, my Grandma opened an antique shop. My sisters and I would go along with her and my Grandpa to the furniture auctions and thought it was great fun to help repaint or stain furniture. My mom and aunt also made and sold their own crafts at shows and local stores for a while, so I suppose this all comes very naturally to me. After years of finding broken down furniture and fixing them up for our home, I decided to share said furniture with the masses. That, and my husband was going to lose it if I brought home another “project” piece to take up space in the garage!

I love searching for what I call “good junk” and giving it new life. We’ve spent a lot of weekends combing through flea markets, estate sales and thrift stores to cultivate a variety of objects both new and old. I was inspired by a combination of my favorite store in Austin called Uncommon Objects and Joanna Gaines of Magnolia Market (and the TV show Fixer Upper). My goal is to combine funky, vintage style with rustic, farmhouse and modern pieces to create a fun collection of objects that would look great in any home. All of this with equestrian undertones, of course!

My sweet husband spent many hours sanding and cutting wood, staining, painting and whatever else I needed help with. I literally spent every free moment on these projects while juggling my office job, freelance work, the animals and trying not to have a nervous breakdown. And I survived by drinking the coffee. Lots and lots of coffee.

I was finally able to set up my booth a few weekends ago and the shop – Red Rock Market – is now open for business. I’m selling everything from vintage lockers, old tables with barn wood accents, small antique pieces, jewelry, magnets and prints. And to top it all of, I’ve been asked to participate in a local vintage market (Vintage Down South) so I’ve been working on more inventory and have a lot more projects to finish!

I’ve just added new items to my Etsy shop and my goal is to get all of the smaller objects up within the next few weeks so please stay tuned for that. I can’t wait to share all of the items I’ve been working on!

Has anyone else ever opened a booth at a vintage market or sold your products at events? What was your experience like?

This is awesome!! I love your finds! I also see at a vintage market and have posted a few times on the blog about the experience – it’s thrilling, terrifying, and oh so much fun (and time). I’m at a vintage barn called the Vintage Market at the Old Red Barn in Chambersburg, PA – we are open the second weekend of the month. There are a select group of women who have individual styles that somehow work together in this space – I’m the “repurposing” gal who has a love of rusty and chippy metal and wood items. You should check out my instagram for some pics (@charmingfarmer)! I wish you best of luck and would love to see your shop but the distance may be an issue 🙂 Hope that you put up some more posts on your experience!
