The New Equestrian Style

A few years ago, when all of the “equestrian” styled items like boots and blazers and horsey emblems first started appearing I got incredibly excited! Working in an office rarely gives me the chance to wear horsey items unless I’m creative or unless it’s jewelry so finding a dress with horses on it was a big deal. And then “riding boots” became a thing. Everyone was wearing fake paddock boots and colorful blazers and calling it “equestrian”. I struggled with the idea because on one hand, it was nice to have more options relating to my passion, but the fact that it was everywhere and had become so cheapened did make it less appealing.

So, how do you navigate this new “Equestrian Style”? How do you stay authentic in a world of copycats? Is it possible to incorporate true equestrian style into your wardrobe without being to “kitschy”? The answer is yes! Here are a few of my favorite pieces that bring a more authentic sense of equestrian style to your outside-the-barn wardrobe.

KatharinePageSandals

Katharine Page sandals – I’m a bit obsessed with the “Del Mar” style, but they’re all beautifully stitched to mirror your favorite bridle.

Also drooling over this bag by Tucker Tweed! The snaffle bit hardware gives it an extra special equestrian flair, while the subtlety of the embossed horse and adds enough style without being too flashy. (This also comes in Hunter/Jumper, Fox Hunt and with their logo)

stirrupironbracelet

Etsy is a great place to find equestrian inspired bracelets and support small businesses! (I love my stirrup iron bracelet by The Leather Element)

Don’t want to spend a ton of money to get the style? Why not use what you already have? Dust off your paddock boots and wear them to work with tights or skinny jeans!

What about those super warm quilted vests you rock at the barn? Pair one with a chambray or cute sweater for a classic equestrian look you can wear to work. And it will keep you warm if you work in a freezing office like me! Or wear your hunt coat with a nice button down and a skirt!

Laurensbracelets

And your nameplate bracelets? Pair them with a few of your other favorite bracelets or bangles for a fun look!

With a little creativity, you can make your day job a little more interesting by adding equestrian flair. Just try not to think about the barn too much while you’re sitting in your air-conditioned cubicle wearing your paddock boots. Sigh…
