You say it’s your birthday!

17 years ago, I first laid eyes on a tiny, spotted, ornery creature and completely fell in love! We’ve learned a lot so far and continue to enjoy learning together almost every day. So, to celebrate Dancer turning 17 years young, I continued my tradition of making him birthday cones! I started this shortly after my family moved onto our land and Dancer was living at home. You can find the original recipe in The Original Book of Horse Treats.

I made some modifications: I reduced the amount of brown sugar to 1/3 cup and added a tablespoon of molasses.  Then I swapped the bran for oats (though I’ve made both versions and Dancer loves them equally) and I skipped the grape because Dancer doesn’t like them. Other than that, I followed the recipe.

It’s so much easier to throw all the ingredients in a food processor! I refrigerate the leftovers.

I’m convinced Dancer would do just about anything for a birthday cone! It disappeared in about 3 seconds! What are your birthday traditions with your horse(s)?

What a great idea!!! Hafl’s birthday is right around the corner and maybe I should try these instead of the standard cake he always got 🙂

I’m going to have to try that recipe! Mine and Fresno’s 7 year anniversary is coming up! It would be a perfect way to celebrate. 🙂
