After you’ve decked out your party space with everything mouse, you might be wondering how to keep the kiddos entertained. For really little ones, I like to keep the activities super simple. When Hattie was younger, we just put out stickers and coloring supplies for the kids. As she got a bit older, we started doing simple outdoor activities if the weather allowed. For the past few years, Hattie has requested that I make up some sort of activity or game for her and her friends to play that is based on her theme. It’s usually some sort of scavenger hunt with clues, but this year we decided to do something a bit different.

Activities

Macaron Mix-Up (free printable)

Hattie is a huge fan of the Sophie Mouse chapter books and the premise for our game was inspired by Sophie’s mom, who owns a bakery. We also play with the Maileg mouse macarons a lot, so I thought the macarons would be a fun thing to incorporate. I found a package of 12 mini plastic macaron boxes on Amazon that twist together and some square cookie boxes at my craft store that fit 4 macarons perfectly. To set up the game, untwist all of the macarons and scatter them on the tray. Stack up the cards and have them ready for the kids.

Our game begins when Mrs. Mouse goes back to pick up some of her customer’s orders when she knocks over the tray of them and they all get mixed up. The kids have to look at the order cards and match each order box with the card by choosing the correct color and amount of macarons.

Hattie wanted to use her favorite stuffed animals as the customers, but on the printable, I just numbered each order. After they package the treats, the kids delivered each one to a stuffed animal that we placed all around our living room. You can give the kids a time limit or just let them try to match the macaron pieces and get them in the boxes and delivered. We also incorporated a cupcake set that Hattie already had in her play kitchen, so it’s easy to add other elements to this and make it your own. I have linked the free printables for you HERE and also at the bottom of the page. The PDF file includes the full instructions, supply list, and the game cards that will need to be printed and cut out. If you try the game, I would love to know how it goes. I hope you enjoy playing as much as Hattie and her friends did!

Coloring Sheets

During one of my searches for mouse-themed activities, I found some adorable mouse coloring sheets so I printed a few for each kid. If you’re a fan of Maileg, I suggest checking out the Mouse Mansion. It’s one of our favorite books and we think her creations are just incredible. The coloring sheets feature the two mice from the book and work so well with our Maileg mice theme.

Paint Your Own Mushroom

I found some really adorable “Paint Your Own” ceramic mushrooms at our local craft store and picked some up for the kids as a backup activity. I like to have something ready just in case they need it. They were so busy playing, we didn’t even get to this activity but I sent them home with the kids to decorate or paint on their own. I had dot stickers ready to place on the mushroom top so that the kids could paint over the stickers and then remove them when the paint is dry to reveal the white dots underneath. You can also use white puffy stickers after it’s painted or skip the dots and see what the kids come up with on their own. These would be cute out in a garden or flower bed, but be sure to spray them with a coat of clear varnish to protect the paint in the weather. If you can’t find ceramic, the wooden versions would also be fun to paint.
