Photographer Matthew Seed

The first time I saw one of Matthew Seed’s photos, I was intrigued and amazed. I’d never seen such beautiful, dark lighting in a portrait before – let alone a horse portrait. I knew I had to know more about this artist! According to his WEBSITE , Matthew grew up riding a neighbor’s horses and, at the age of 12, received his first camera. Over the next 12  years, he would be come so advanced that even a college professor said he had surpassed the abilities of a class far older than he was! He worked as a fashion photographer before deciding to branch out on his own.

” To produce a powerful portrait of either human or animal means infusing the image with a sense of personality. To do that, requires a connection between the artist and the subject. For Matthew, the secret lies in his ability to put horses at ease in order to gain their trust and co-operation. All his aptitude with aperture, shutter speed and flash would count for nothing if the preparatory work to bond with his equine sitters was not successful.” – www.horse-photographer.co.uk

Years spent with horses gave Matthew the edge he needed in pursuing his new career focus, and soon he developed a very unique style of equine portraiture. His work has been compared to painter George Stubbs and he has been called “the world’s best equine photographer” by many. Former clients include Zara Phillips, Duke and Duchess of Westminster and former England footballer Michael Owen. I don’t know about you, but I’d love to have a portrait done of my horse by Matthew!
